Liming Wax is a smooth paste wax that produces a white-grained finish on relatively open grained wood. Liming produces a distinctive effect, which is traditionally associated with oak furniture. Filling the wood grain with liming wax creates the finish. The white wax contrasts with the wood, emphasizing the grain pattern.

Two hundred years ago this liming method was used to lighten dark wood. It is the predecessor of the "pickling method" used today.  Liming Wax is a great product for unfinished furniture as it can be applied directly onto bare wood while also working well on stained wood.

Below is a sample of Liming Wax used over black stain:

Directions: New wood will benefit from opening the grain with a brush before application. Working only in the direction of the grain, use a wire or brass bristle brush to dry-scrub the wood. Take care not to scratch to wood across the grain because these scratches with absorb the Liming Wax as well, making it visible when you are finished. Apply Liming Wax sparingly with a cotton cloth rubbing well into the grain and removing the excess.
